For a retired couple who has spent decades exploring the world, home is more than just a place to live. It is a sanctuary that celebrates a lifetime of travel, memories, and routines.
When the couple purchased this sea-view flat, they imagined a space that would reflect both their journeys and their current lifestyle, where every corner holds purpose and personal significance. The entire flat underwent a thoughtful reconfiguration to align with their lifestyle. What was once a conventional layout was transformed to maximise comfort, accessibility, and connection to the sea views. Spaces flow naturally from one to the next, balancing areas for quiet reflection with zones for shared activities.
Upon entering, the living room immediately draws attention to a dedicated area for sound bath practice. Custom-built cabinetry accommodates these items perfectly, with proportions and surfaces designed to enhance both display and functionality. The layout allows sound to resonate freely, while subtle lighting casts a warm glow over the instruments, making the area a serene visual and auditory focal point of the room.
A traditional Japanese tokonoma, featuring a carefully chosen script, anchors the living space. Inspired by travels to Japan, it blends art and ritual into the home, offering a timeless nod to mindfulness and cultural appreciation.
The study, bathed in natural light and framed by a foldable window, opens onto panoramic sea views, allowing anyone in the room to face the horizon while reading or reflecting. The open, airy layout invites quiet contemplation, where every object contributes to a sense of calm and timeless elegance.
The kitchen, originally the master bedroom, was redesigned to suit a more relaxed, retirement-friendly lifestyle. High cabinets were avoided in favour of open shelves, with lower drawers providing convenient storage within easy reach.
Even the bathrooms were thoughtfully reconsidered. In older flats, it was common to have two separate bathrooms: a master bathroom with a shower and a common toilet with just a toilet bowl. In this home, the two spaces were thoughtfully combined into a single Jack-and-Jill bathroom, improving accessibility and flow. The redesign prioritises wheelchair-friendliness while maintaining elegance, with practical features seamlessly integrated to make daily routines effortless.
Throughout the home, every design decision is intentional. From serene wellness corners to sunlit reading spaces and practical, easy-to-use kitchens and bathrooms, the flat demonstrates how thoughtful design caters to the couple’s lifestyle. In this home, beauty and usability exist in perfect harmony, creating a space where every day is effortless, comfortable, and deeply personal.
